Obituary

Henry Joseph "Harry" Browne, 93, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Regional Hospital of Scranton, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Lillian G. Brembs, on February 8, 2003. Born June 11, 1927 in Teaneck, NJ, he was the son of the late Henry J., Sr. and Catherine (Cox) Browne. Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 and served during World War II. After his discharge from the military, he earned his high school degree from Jamaica Evening High School and later attended Hofstra University. He then worked as a Production and Control Manager for the Grumman Aerospace Corporation, Bethpage, NY, for 25 years until his retirement. Harry also worked for 20 years at the Elk Mountain Ski Resort. He was a member of St. John Vianney Parish, American Legion Post 221, Carbondale, was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Carbondale Council and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Carbondale. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by three sons: Kevin Browne and wife Julie of South Setauket, NY, Douglas and Roger Browne, both of Greenfield Township, PA; five grandchildren: Sarah, Jason, Sean, Cody and Trevor Browne; one great grandson: Julius Moody; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy. The funeral was held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Route 106, Royal, PA, celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Robert Brembs, Kevin, Douglas, Roger, Trevor and Cody Browne. Military honors were accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Simpson VFW Honor Guard. Friends called Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent in Harry's name to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
