Grace M. Puma Gillott completed her lifelong journey peacefully on Saturday evening at the age of 92. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she later settled in Carbondale after marring the love of her life, the late Sam "Shabel" Gillott. Grace and Sam shared a loving 56 years together. Grace was the daughter of the late Colagero and Giovannina Marrauca Puma. As a young woman, Grace worked as a secretary for the Borden's Company, an inspector at RCA, and was owner and operator of G & G Garments where she worked hand-in-hand with her husband Sam until retirement.
Grace was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who was so proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Grace had the privilege of seeing all of her grandchildren graduate from college and each obtaining success in their related fields which was always her dream for them. Grace loved to cook and bake many Italian delicacies. She passed on several of her Italian traditions she learned from her mother to her family who will continue to cherish them. Grace impacted the lives of her family with many true life lessons and referred to herself as the, "Teacher from Jersey". She loved to watch QVC and always provided her family with the latest gadgets. She enjoyed spending time traveling and took many trips to the casino where she loved to play the slot machines. Grace is survived by her daughters, Judy Bebla and husband Ron, Sr., Carbondale, and Angel Masco and husband Joe, Carbondale with whom she resided. She is also survived by the lights of her life her four grandchildren, Jennifer and Ronnie Jr. Bebla, and Samantha and Nathan Masco all of Carbondale. Also surviving are a very special sister-in-law, Carmella Guzzi and Grace's loving dog, her Sheltie, Shabel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who meant the world to her. Grace was preceded in death by sisters, Mary DeBacco, Nicole Puma, and a brother Angelo Puma.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, for their compassion and care during Grace's final hours; The Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility for their wonderful rehabilitating care given to Grace. The family would especially like to thank Ami Battle and Lisa Carrigan for their endless hours of love and devotion they gave to Grace. The funeral was held Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass on Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor, Rev. John Lapera, pastor of St. Gregory's Church, Clarks Green and Deacon Edward Casey. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.
Pallbeares: Mayor Justin Taylor, John Masco, Ami Battle, Lisa Carrigan, Matthew Grandinetti and James Bebla.
Friends called Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to have donations made in Grace's name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale or The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 Williams Street, Dunmore, PA.
