Glynn C. Shifler, 85, of Kingsley, PA., died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008 at Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility, Susquehanna, PA., after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the former Lois J. Ogborne, who died 1986. Born and raised in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Oliver H. and Florence (Reynolds) Shifler.He was a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina and served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II. After the war, he decided to enter the funeral business as a third generation funeral director with his father. He graduated in 1949 from the American Academy of Embalming in New York City. Upon receiving his funeral director's license he worked with his father for several years before moving to Doylestown, PA., to become a sales manager for Nationwide Insurance. In 1965, he and his wife moved back home and established the Glynn C. Shifler Funeral Home in Clifford, PA., in 1966. Together they operated the business until Lois's death at which time Glynn retired and sold the business to the Parise family. Glynn served as the supervisor of the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home until February of 2008. He was a member of the Elk Mountain VFW, Post # 8488 in Lenox, PA., a 50 year member of the F. A.M., Carbondale Lodge # 249, a former member of the Clifford United Methodist Church and the TriCounty Funeral Directors Association where he had served as its president in 1971. He is survived by his companion of 19 years: Doris Dee Hayes of Kingsley, PA.; one nephew: Glenn Shifler of Greenfield Township, PA.; two nieces: Donna Chindimi of Carbondale, PA. and Beverly Huchenski of Vandling, PA.;He was preceded in death by one son: Bruce Shifler; one brother: Robert Shifler.The funeral was held Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, with the Rev. Lynn Tompkins and Deacon Wesley Wilbur, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford. Pallbearers: Glen Shifler, Lynn McLaud, Sr., Lynn McLaud, Jr., William McLaud, Chase McLaud and Adam McLaud. Friends called Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 4-8 PM.
