Gloria J. Chmiel, 73, of Carbondale, died Monday, July 13, 2026, at Geisinger CMC, Scranton. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Chmiel. They were married on February 14, 1974.

Born February 19, 1953 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late John and Doris Muta Shandor. Gloria was a graduate of Waymart schools and had been employed in the kitchen at Osprey Ridge Healthcare Center in Carbondale, for nearly 20 years. An animal lover, she lovingly cared for her many cats during her lifetime. She especially cherished the memories made on vacations with her husband, son and grandson.

She is also survived by two sons: Jason Chmiel of Carbondale, and Jeremy Chmiel of Forest City; a grandson: Jaidyn Chmiel; a brother: John Shandor of Waymart; a sister: Doris Morgan of State College; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister: Cecelia Savage.

A viewing will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, from 2-5 p.m. at Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale.

Family and friends attending the funeral on Saturday, July 18, 2026, are asked to arrive at the funeral home by 9:30 a.m. The procession to Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton will depart at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will be conducted at the cemetery chapel by Rev. August Ricciardi followed by entombment.
