Glenn Bater, 65, of New York City and Union Dale, PA., died Friday, October 28, 2011 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. He is survived by his wife the former Kathleen O'Connor. He was preceded in death by his first wife the former Karen Callison.
Born May 4, 1946 in Chicago, IL., he was the son of the late Anthony and Elsie Sedar Bater.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music/Music Education from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and his Master's Degree in Music from the Manhattan School of Music. After 38 years he retired from the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York City where he was a veteran opera singer, Baritone voice. He sang with the Chorus and also performed small solo parts. He was also an actor and performer and was a member of the Actors' Equity Association in New York City. In his early years, he was an Iron Worker in Chicago and had been a member of the Iron Workers Union. He was a member of the Grace Gospel Chapel in Harlem and had served as a bible teacher. He was the former president of the Board of Directors for the Morningside Gardens Co-Op in Manhattan.
He is survived by two sons: Benjamin Bater of New York, NY. and Luke Bater and wife Christine of Mantua, NJ.; one granddaughter: Lucy Bater; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one son: Joshua Bater.
A funeral service was held Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM from the Grace Gospel Chapel, 102 W. 133rd Street, New York City, NY., with Brother Livingstone Clarke and Brother David James, officiating.
A second funeral service was held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the Elkdale Baptist Church, West Clifford, PA., with Rev. Frank Bissol, pastor, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Pallbearers: Michael McManon, Richard Mele, Michael Mele, Richard Milazzo, Luke Bater and Benjamin Bater.
Friends called Monday, November 7, 2011 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Elkdale Baptist Church.
