Gertrude W. Kilmer, 90, of Crystal Lake, PA, died Friday, March 17, 2017 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, after a lengthy illness.
Born August 18, 1926 in Greenfield Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cortland and Blanche Davis Kilmer.
Prior to retirement, she had been employed in the local garment industry for over 40 years and was a member of I.L.G.W.U. She was a member of the Scranton Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She was fondly called "Guy Guy" by her grandson when he was a child and the nickname stayed with her throughout the years. Gertrude was passionate about animals and rescued many over the years. She was also an ardent supporter of the local animal shelters and ASPCA.
She is survived by one son: James L. Kilmer and wife Cindy of Carbondale, PA; one grandson: James B. Kilmer and fiance Heather Everett of Carbondale, PA; 4 great grandchildren: Dylan, Isaiah, Aidyn, and Aerabella Kilmer; two sisters: Annabelle Stackhouse of Carbondale, PA and Ethel Labowski of Crystal Lake, PA; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Lelia Barrett and Olive Decker; two brothers: Chester and Clarence Kilmer.
The funeral was held Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, with Pastor Thomas Cusack, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Friends called Monday, March 20, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in Gertrude's name to either the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter or Dessin Animal Shelter
