Gertrude Capinsky, age 89, a resident of Osprey Ridge Health Care Center, 45 North Scott Street, Carbondale, PA. and formerly of Simpson, PA. died early Thursday morning, August 21, 2003 after an illness. She was the wife of John Capinsky who died in 1969.
Born April 27, 1914 in Simpson, PA. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Kathryn (Popovic) Popovitch.
She was a member of S.S. Peter Paul Ukranian Greek Catholic Church, Simpson. She worked for Botany Mill Company in Passaic, New Jersey for several years.
Prior to entering Osprey Ridge she lived at Birch Hills Personal Care Home, Simpson for 6 years. She was a member of the Carbondale Senior Citizens Organization.
She enjoyed singing, playing bingo and cards and watching horse and dog racing. She was a loving sister and aunt who enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two sisters: Antoinette Bronchella of Forest City, PA. and Ann Mancuso of Carbondale, PA.; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins
Preceded in death by four brothers: John Popovitch, Nicholas Popovitch, Stephen Popovitch and Peter Popovitch; three sisters: Barbara Wagenwrenner, Mary Arbolino and Dorothy Wagner
The funeral was held Saturday, August 23, 2003 at 11:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Divine Liturgy at 11:15 am in S.S. Peter Paul Ukranian Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse Street, Simpson, celebrated by Rev. John Seniw, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Saturday morning from 10-11 am. Pallbearers: Michael Klobucar and Joseph Jacobina.
