Georgia Surrusco age 78, of Carbondale, PA., died Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2003 at the hospice unit of Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, after an illness. She was the wife of Joseph Surrusco, who died September 17, 1995.
Born February 22, 1925 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of the late James and Antoinette Torra.
She and her late husband were prior residents of the East Village of New York City and than moved to Carbondale for a brief two year period. They later settled in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, New York and upon their retirement have resided in Carbondale since 1971. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and was a former member of Our Lady of Mericles R.C. Church, Brooklyn, NY. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two step-sons: Joseph Surrusco of Florida and Charles Surrusco of Jackson, NJ.; one brother: Vincent Torra of Brooklyn, NY.; one sister Marie Golino of Bronx, NY.; 7 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; one nephew.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 10:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. Kevin Mulhern, pastor.
Interment was held on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at 1:30 pm in the Canarsie Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Committal services were conducted by Fr. Hughes, pastor of Our Lady of Mericles R.C. Church.
Friends called Saturday, June 28, 2003 from 9-10 am at the funeral home.
