George A. Vitack, 92, a resident of the Osprey Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carbondale, PA. and formerly of Port Griffith, PA., died early Monday morning, February 27, 2012 at Osprey Ridge. He was the husband of the former Rose Rufsheski who died on October 30, 1987.
Born February 19, 1920 in Jenkins Twp., PA., he was the son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Korkus) Vitek and the step son of the late Mary Vitek.
He was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church in Port Griffith, PA. and was a retired coal miner. He also lived and worked in the New York metropolitan area for several years and was a patented inventor. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Navy.
He is survived by one daughter: Josephine Vitack; one son: William Vitack; two grandchildren: Julian and Abby; four sisters: Elizabeth Fereck, Mary Vitek, Ann Marie Silinskie and Florence Para; one brother: Andrew Vitek; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 10 Siblings: Joseph Vitek, Leo Vitek, Josephine Vitek, Emily Grebeck, Emil Miskovic, Irene Pitel, Ruth Warnagiris, Sister M. Florine, Sister M. Andrene and Julia Utegg.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 9:30 AM from St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston, PA., celebrated by Msgr. John J. Bendik, pastor. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, PA.
Military honors were provided by the Dupont VFW AMVETS.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
