George H. Stephens, 87, of Greenfield Township, PA and Daytona Beach, FL, died peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, with his wife and daughter by his side. His wife of 67 years is the former, Rosemari Healey.
Born April 6, 1930 in Lenoxville, PA, he was the son of the late Howard and Irene Cobb Stephens.
George was a graduate of Harford High School and joined his father in business at H.L. Stephens and Son Ford Dealership in Lenoxville, which was one of the oldest dealerships on the east coast, remaining in business for 97 years.
George had a passion for anything mechanical. This resulted in his love of collecting antique cars, building his own motor home, and restoring antique outboard motors. As a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, he was featured on the cover and for an article he had written for their magazine. This also led to him being featured on a segment of Mike Stevens Pennsylvania Outdoor Life.
George loved the game of golf and belonged to the Elk View Country Club since 1962 and was a member of the Pelican Bay Country Club in Daytona Beach, Florida. He was an avid hunter and belonged to Tall Timbers Hunting Club in Pike County.
George and Rosemari, enjoyed life at Newton Lake since 1960 and he boasted as being the first person to ever water ski on the lake.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care of both George and his family.
He is also survived by a daughter: Beth Komar and husband John of Clifford, PA; a sister: Helen Stephens Lynady of Florida; a daughter-in-law: Linda Edwards Stephens and fianc Thomas Rusek; five grandchildren: Danielle McClaud and husband Chad of Lenoxville, PA, Heidi Pavelski and husband Steve of Tompkinsville, PA, Jodi Bello and husband Jason of Tompkinsville, PA, Eric George Stephens, Jr. of Royal, PA and Emily Wise of Clifford, PA; George was also proud of his five great grandchildren: Lyndon, Molly, Kinsey, Keelan and Aidan.
He was also preceded in death by his only son: Eric George Stephens.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Pastor Eric Watkins of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Pallbearers: Steve Pavelski, Chad McClaud, Bruce Stephens, John Komar, Jason Bello and Thomas Rusek. Friends called Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company, 424 Route 106, Greenfield Township, PA 18407
