George R. Buchinski, age 80, of Carbondale Township, PA. died Sunday evening, May 16, 2004 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale following an illness. His wife is the former Mary J. Kashetta. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary May 7th.
Born April 6, 1924 in Mayfield, PA. He was the son of the late Martin B. and Mary (Stopa) Buchinski.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Mayfield and its choir. He attended Mayfield Schools and resided in Carbondale Township for the past 47 years.
He was a World War II Army Veteran where he served in D-Day invasion at Normandy and earned the Purple Heart along with other medals. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Carbondale, the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars both of Simpson, PA. He also was a member of the Golden Age Senior Citizens Club and St. Michaels Church Holy Name Society both of Simpson. He was a member of the Lakeland Booster Club where he was instrumental in starting Midget football.
Prior to his retirement he worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot for 17 years, Sugermans Department Store and Merli-Sarnoski Park. He also served as Carbondale Township Supervisor for four years.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved simple things in life such as listening to polka, shopping, tinkering in his garage, watching sports and Wheel of Fortune.

He is survived by three daughters: Georgette Buchinski of White Haven, PA., Janet Buchinski and Theresa Buchinski both of Carbondale, PA.; three sons: Tom Buchinski and wife Maureen of Cranberry Township, PA., Martin Buchinski and wife Marie of Carbondale, PA. and Lawrence Buchinski and wife Lisa of Throop, PA.; three sisters: Ann Gellak of Mayfield, PA., Janet Nolan of Fort Lauderdale, FL. and Julia Drutarsky of Yardley, PA.; one brother: John Buchinski of Mayfield, PA.; three grandsons: Ryan Buchinski, Michael Buchinski and Daniel Buchinski; one granddaughter: Vicki McElroy; one great granddaughter: Kelsie McElroy; Several Nieces Nephews
He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Joshua and Eric Buchinski; one brother: Joseph Buchinski; four sisters: Elizabeth Drutarsky, Victoria Mizerak, Frances Buchinski and Virginia Buchinski
The funeral was held Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at 9:30 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 420 Hudson Street, Mayfield, celebrated by Rev. John Kulavich, pastor and Rev. Hillary Malinoski, pastor of St. Michael's Church, Simpson. Interment, parish cemetery, East Jermyn, PA.
Friends called Tuesday, May 18, 2004 from 2-4 7-9 pm. Military services were conducted by the Simpson VFW Post 4712. Pallbearers: Jimmy Buchinski, Dennis Buchinski, Danny Buchinski, Paul Buchinski, Paul Doven and David Papura.
