Obituary

Garth S. Estadt, 60, of Scott Township, PA, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA. He is survived by his loving wife, Christie L. (Scofield) Estadt; his son, Garth S. Estadt II., and his fiancée, Savannah Vasquez, of East Stroudsburg, PA; and his daughter, Brooke Estadt, of Raleigh, NC.

Born on July 5, 1964, in Langhorne, PA, Garth was the son of the late Charles Estadt and Nancy (Sill) Walker, and stepson of Scotty Walker of Scott Township, PA.

Garth graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1983 and went on to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, graduating in 1988. While at West Point, he was a proud member of the Army football team and, in his free time, enjoyed walking punishment tours with his friends and classmates. Upon commissioning, Garth entered the U.S. Army as an artillery officer, serving tours in Greece and at Fort Lewis, Washington. He later chose to join U.S. Army Special Operations, serving with distinction as a Green Beret in the 3rd Special Forces Group.

On May 26, 1990, Garth married the love of his life, Christie. They eventually settled in Scott Township, where he built a 27-year career as a State Farm Insurance agent. A devoted father, he found great joy in coaching his son's football team at Lakeland and took immense pride in both of his children. He emphasized the values of love, commitment, kindness, and hard work, and his #1 rule for them was: "Never give up and always do your best."

Garth was well known for his words of encouragement. His "superpower" was making people feel special and connecting people.

A true patriot, he enjoyed collecting guns and knives and loved sharing stories from his time in the military. He deeply valued the bonds he shared with his "teammates" - his close friends and family.

Garth was a man of faith, and his favorite Bible verse was John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, July 2, 205 at 4 p.m. at the Montage Mountain, Pavilion 1000 Montage Mountain Road, Scranton, PA. Garth will be laid to rest at West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the Green Beret Foundation at greenberetfoundation.org
