Freeman Lott Smitty Schmitt, 76, a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home, Forest City, PA. and formerly of RD1, Uniondale, PA., died Tuesday night, July 4, 2006 at the nursing home. Born November 29, 1929 in West Clifford, PA., he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth (Lott) Schmitt. He was a graduate of Harford Schools and was a member of the Elkdale Baptist Church, West Clifford and a former member of the Moxie Club, Carbondale, PA. He owned and operated a farm in West Clifford until 1961 and later worked for the Federal Government building aviation and communications towers. He also drilled oil wells for Joe Haynak of Hancock, NY. He retired from Baumanns in Childs, PA. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be greatly missed. He is survived by two sons: Neil Schmitt of Lakeland, FL. and David Schmitt of Dalton, PA.; two grandchildren: Briana Murray of Lunenburg, MA. and David Schmitt of Temple City, CA.; two great grandchildren: Karen Elizabeth Schmitt and Nathaniel Robert Murray; a niece and nephew: Evelyn Lacroix and Gary Schmitt He was preceded in death by one brother: Selwyn Schmitt The funeral was held Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 1:00 pm from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, with the Rev. Frank Bissol, pastor of the Elkdale Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford. Friends called Friday, July 7, 2006 from 2-4 6-8 PM. Pallbearers: Neil, David and Gary Schmitt, Randy Lacroix, Michael Kovacs and Jack McKeeby.
