Franklin J. Sears, 78, of Carbondale, PA., died Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. He was the husband of the former Mary Ann Savage. Born July 9, 1930 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Ruth Sears, who died at his birth. He was raised by his late grandmother Rhoda Youngs Sears.He was of the Presbyterian faith and served in the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post 221 of Carbondale and the VFW Post 4712 of Simpson. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was employed as an iron worker for a foundry in North Syracuse, NY. After his retirement, he moved back to Carbondale from Syracuse, NY where he had resided since 1955. He is survived by one son: Paul Sears of Carbondale, PA.; one daughter: Ruth Sears of Carbondale, PA.; one granddaughter.The funeral was held Friday, May 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Carmine J. and Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Margo Tomlinson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA. Friends called Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 6-8 PM. Pallbearers: Tim Savage, Santo Russo, Eugene Costa and George Pulinka.
