Frank Verbrugge, 95, of Greenfield Township, PA, died January 1, 2025 at Geisinger-CMC, Scranton, PA, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Touw Verbrugge on September 28, 2016.
Born August 31, 1929 in Clifton, NJ, he was the son of the late Marinus "Martin" and Lyntje VanGameren Verbrugge.
Frank began his career with the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in 1947 as an apprentice meat cutter and worked his way through the ranks to a journeyman butcher having worked in several northern New Jersey A&P stores. In 1965, he was promoted to a management position as meat specialist in the Paterson office and later as a meat merchandiser. In 1976, he became Director of Meat Operations, Bronx Division of the A&P. By 1980 he was Director of Meat Operations in New Jersey South and in 1988 New Jersey North. At the time of his retirement, he was Group Meat Director. A&P sought, and retained, Frank in a consulting role for several years after retirement. During his 44-year+ career he was remembered for his dedication, gentlemanliness, and his enormous amount of job knowledge from the store level to management.
After his retirement he relocated to Greenfield Township, where he and his wife cherished country living. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Siesta Key, Florida to visit friends. Frank also took up woodworking as a hobby during his retirement. He was an active member of the Clifford United Methodist Church and always volunteered for their annual church dinners. At 95 years young he was still extremely active and independent. He will be fondly remembered as a great person but especially a wonderful and loving husband and father.
He is survived by one daughter: Eleen Jamison and husband, Al of Greenfield Township, PA; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Elizabeth Verbrugge; and several nieces and nephews.
