Obituary

Frank A. Oliveri, Crystal Lake, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2014 at home, surrounded by his loving family. His beautiful, beloved wife for 72 years, Palmina, was at his side. Born in Carbondale, son of the late Carlo and Mary DeNaro Oliveri, He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. Frank was the Front of the House Manager at all Shubert Theatres in Philadelphia for several years before he purchased the Crystal Lake Hotel, to which he devoted 70 hard-working and rewarding years of his life. He touched the lives of innumerable guests with his welcoming smile and indomitable spirit. Extraordinarily generous of heart, whoever sought his help, he helped. His passions were his family and his business: he gave them both his all. Frank was a founding member of the Broadway Theatre League, a quarter-century member of the Board of Directors at St. Joseph's Hospital, a founding member of the Carbondale Chapter of UNICO, a committee member for Project Hope, past President of the Scranton Prep Fathers Club, and a lifetime member of the Elkview Country Club. He is also survived by four children: Beverly, of Dalton, Luc, Patrick (and wife Jane), and Judy (and husband Stephen Martino) of Crystal Lake; two sisters: Mary Talarico and Jeanne Homick of Crystal Lake; a brother: Stephen (and wife Fern) of Crystal Lake; seven grandchildren. "He held the family tight, and we felt secure." Three brothers preceded him in death: Alex, Angelo and Joseph. The family would like to thank Joan Holzman and Kari Snipes for their compassionate care. A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, concelebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor of Mt. Carmel Church, Rev. Joseph Sitko, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Waymart and Rev. Joseph Sica, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Pallbearers were Frank's grandchildren: Alyssa Vetro, Adrianna, Tara, Eliza, Marcello and Franco Oliveri. The family received friends Wednesday, November 19, 2014 from 9:00 until Mass time at the church. Memorial donations were sent to your favorite charity.
