Obituary

Frank T. Mancuso, 89, of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday night, May 6, 2014 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Angela A. Pettinato who died December 8, 2010. Born April 18, 1925 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late James and Jennie Parise Mancuso. He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and the University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran of World War II and took part in the D-Day Invasion and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. His very first business venture that he was proud of was the establishment of the Crystal Lake Riding Club. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a mechanical engineer for the Babcock and Wilcox Company in Scranton. Since 1973, he and his wife were the owners of Pettinato's Restaurant in Carbondale that was established by his wife's parents in 1922. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and the Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Carbondale Chapter of UNICO. He was also a former member of the Health Systems Agency in Wilkes Barre, the Jay Cee's, the Carbondale Recreation Committee and was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Lynchburg, Virginia. He was an accomplished pianist and great story teller who enjoyed Sunday's at the lake, cooking and especially horses. He was also a very passionate supporter of the American Red Cross's blood drives. His greatest joy was his family who will deeply miss him for his gift of humor and his guidance. He is survived by three children: James Mancuso and wife Doreen of Dundaff, PA, Jacinta Koerper and husband Edward (Ted) of Huntingdon Valley, PA and Pierre Mancuso and wife Jennifer of Dunmore, PA; four grandchildren: Angela and Christina Koerper and Nico and Chloe Mancuso; one sister: Rosella Tomaine of Carbondale, PA; sister-in-law's and brother-in-law's: Ann Marie Pettinato of Crystal Lake, PA, Anthony Pettinato and wife Hilda of Endicott, NY, Marie Greto and husband Anthony of Carbondale, PA and Jackie Pettinato and wife Yvonne of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brother-in-law's: Dr. Salvatore R. Pettinato and Joseph Tomaine. The funeral was held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Msgr. David L. Tressler, pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Pallbearers: Michael Greto, James Pettinato, Gerard Pettinato, Luke Pettinato, Christopher Imperiale, Gary Michael Smedley and Christopher Schiebe. Military honors were conducted by the Simpson VFW Honor Guard. Friends called Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4-8 PM.
