Frank C. Deacon Grecco, 82, of Carbondale, PA., died Thursday morning, October 6, 2005 at Marian Community Hospital Carbondale.
His wife of 62 years is the former Eleanor Burns.
Born June 29, 1923 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Carmella Varano Grecco.
He attended Carbondale public schools and upon graduation from the Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale, where he was a standout member of the basketball team, he was hired by the D H Railroad as a trackman.
In 1942, during World War II, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. The next year he boarded the Queen Elizabeth and landed on Christmas Eve in England. For two and a half years he served in Germany with the 115th Evacuation Hospital achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Returning to civilian life, Frank worked as a purchasing manager for the machine shop in the former Weston Industries, now Lockheed Martin in Archbald and spent 35 years with that company.
His public service included memberships on the Carbondale Planning Commission, the Pioneer Bank Business Development Advisory Board, the Lackawanna County Welfare Board in which he served as Chairman of the Interviewing Committee, the Carbondale Housing Authority and the Westgate Housing Coporation having served as president.
He was an active member of the Columbus Day Association of Lackawanna County serving as Treasurer for well over a decade and as a Past President. He was presented with the groups Leadership Award in 1991 and was to be honored at this years event with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Active in politics, Frank is a lifetime member of the Republican Committee of Lackawanna County having served as Treasurer. He was named Republican Man of the Year in 1992.
He is a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale in which he served as an usher for many years.
He is survived by one son: Frank C. 'Deacon' Grecco of Carbondale, PA.; one daughter: Betty Jean Stoklosa and husband Francis of Carbondale, PA.; one grandson, James Stoklosa and wife Susan; two great grandsons: James B Stoklosa Jr. and Chris Stoklosa; one brother: Anthony Grecco of Carbondale, PA.; Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Rudy and Joseph Grecco; three sisters: Josephine Gonzalez, Christine and Rose Grecco
The funeral was held Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 9:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. Russell Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Monday, October 10, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm.
