Fiore N. Mr. Softee Tochelli, 94, of Carbondale, PA, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, May 15, 2014 at home. He was the husband of the former Joan R. Vymlatil who died August 20, 2010.
Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Augustino and Rose Cerra Tochelli.
He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, class of 1939, Carbondale. He also graduated from Lackawanna Business College, Scranton, PA and received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.
His passion in life was sales and had been employed as a salesman for Sugerman's Department Store and the Burlington Coat Factory both in Eynon, PA. He was well known in Carbondale as Mr. Softee having owned an ice cream truck many years ago.
He enjoyed gardening and spending time in the outdoors.
The family would like to thank all those who assisted them in Fiore's care including the entire staff of Home Health Hospice, Mary Ann Dunleavy, Vicki Whitelavich, Delores Judge, Sharon Cooke, Cindy Wilce Kilhullen and especially Sue, Debbie and Christina who were with him during the last week of his life.
He is survived by one son: Harold Tochelli and wife Sandy of Urbana, OH; two granddaughters who were his caregivers: Cathy Tochelli and boyfriend Wayne Scotch, with whom he resided with and Angelina Curtis and husband Bobby of Carbondale, PA; one sister: Carmella Cerene of Archbald, PA; one brother: Phillip Tochelli of Jermyn, PA; several nieces and nephews including, Tommy Cerene who was also his godson.
He was preceded in death by one grandson: Jonathan Tochelli; four sisters: Elsie Bruno, Rose Otto, Theresa Veina and Lena Perkins.
The funeral was held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor. Interment with military honors, parish cemetery, Carbondale.
Pallbearers: Bobby Curtis, Philip Tochelli, Jr., Tommy Cerene, Ed Schultz, Anthony Veina and Tommy Cerene, Jr.
Friends called Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 4-6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to Home Health Hospice, 940 Scranton Carbondale Highway, Eynon, PA 18403.
