Everett H. Bud Stephens, Jr., 87, of Honesdale, PA., died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Mount Sinai Hospital, Miami, FL. His wife of 65 years, the former Alyce Louise Evans, died on January 16, 2013.
Born February 3, 1926 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Everett H. and Mary Crossley Stephens.
He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in dairy husbandry. He was a self employed dairy farmer and operated Stephens Bros. Farm and Dairy in Honesdale.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Essex. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with seven stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale. He was a longtime Wayne County 4-H Leader and a member of the XYZ Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and camper who enjoyed traveling especially cruises.
He is survived by three daughters: Cynthia Stephens and partner Gaylond Tramell of Coatesville, PA., Holly Clark and husband Jack of West Chester, PA. and Jill Stephens of Evening Shade, AR.; four grandchildren: Cody and Zachary Strasser both of Hawley, PA., Stephen and Alex Clark both of West Chester, PA.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Peggy Race; a brother: Bruce Stephens.
A memorial service for both Bud and Alice was held Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Central United Methodist Church, 205 11th Street, Honesdale, with Rev. Rob Kazinski, pastor, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
