Evelyn Van Wert, age 86, a resident of the Carbondale Nursing Home, Carbondale, PA. and formerly of Farber Court, Scranton, PA., died early Tuesday morning, August 8, 2006 at the nursing home. She was the wife of LeRoy Van Wert, who died in 1979. Born October 15, 1919 in Scranton, PA., she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Margaret Lavinia Poole Herbert, Sr. Prior to her retirement she was employed in the local garment industry as a sewing machine operator. She was of the Epicsopal faith. She is survived by one daughter: Shirley Washburn of Thompson, PA.; one son: LeRoy Van Wert, Jr. of Scranton, PA; 7 Grandchildren; Several Great Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Herbert, James and Lemuel Harry Herbert, who was killed during World War II; five sisters: Mildred Sulz, Alice Rusch, Bessie Keller, Hannah Brown and infant Mae. A graveside service was held Friday, August 11, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, PA., with the Rev. William Pickard, officiating. Cremation took place at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA. Funeral arrangements were entrusted under the care of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Inc., Carbondale.
