Erzsebeth Kovacs, 75, of Clifford Township, PA., died Saturday afternoon, July 13, 2013 at the Mountain View Care Center, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of Mihaly Kovacs who died June 17, 1997.
Born November 28, 1937 in Ossi, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Janos and Erzsebeth Laki.
She left her native country in 1957 during the communist uprising and immigrated to the United States with her newly wed husband. They settled in Philadelphia and later moved to Clifford Township in 1977. She was a retired seamstress who worked in the local garment industry and was a member of the I.L.G.W.U. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by one daughter: Elizabeth Brown and husband Norman of Upper Chichester, PA.; one son: Mihaly Kovacs, Jr. and wife Lynne of Clifford Township, PA.; one grandson: Michael Scott Kovacs of Clifford Township, PA.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: John and Doris Ann Kovacs of Philadelphia, PA.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother: Janos; one sister: Barbara.
A blessing service was held Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
Pallbearers: Michael Kovacs, Norman Brown, James Norton, Stephen Kovacs, Adam Kovacs and Mark Kovacs.
Friends called Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
Memorial contributions were made to the family at P.O. Box 42, Clifford, PA 18413 to help defray Erzsebeth's final expenses.
