Obituary

Elsie O'Hara, of Fell Township, PA., died early Wednesday morning, January 5, 2010 at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Scranton, PA., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Hazel (Sweeney) Puhala. She was a graduate of Scranton Tech and retired from the Bell Telephone Company in Scranton after 43 years of service as an operator. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, PA. She worked for many years on the St. Rose Bingo Committee. She loved to shop and always took great pride in her appearance. She was very generous and was willing to help anyone in need. Her family will always remember her tremendous commitment, strength and loving ways. May she rest in peace from all her hard labors and sufferings. Since her faith was so strong the family would appreciate a prayer said in her memory. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Greg Salko for the exceptional care he administered to her as well as Dr. Allen Orehek and staff for their kindness and attention. There are not enough words to thank the entire staff of Home Health Care Professionals that made it possible to keep her in the comfort of her home and showing compassion, respect and dignity during her final journey. Thanks are also given to the Ascrea Care Hospice team and staff at Mid Valley Hospital for her respite care. She will be deeply missed by her loving pet, Macy. She is survived by one daughter: Michele Surace and husband Dennis of Fell Township, PA.; two grandsons: Donald Surace and wife Kimberly of Fell Township, PA. and Dennis Surace and wife Tracey of Waymart, PA.; one great grandson: Sean Michael Surace. She was preceded in death by one son: Patrick O'Hara who died in 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. William D. Campbell, senior priest. Inurnment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated and no visitation was held. Arrangements were under the direction of Edward A. Wade Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale.
