Elizabeth "B.J." Shifler Fazio RN., 85, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Fazio, Jr. on May 18, 2010. Born October 28, 1935 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late J. Russell Owens and Marie Byer Owens. B.J. was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Central High School and a 1956 graduate of Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed for 35 years at the Carbondale General Hospital and for five years at Marian Community Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the Scranton State General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni, the former Carbondale General Hospital Auxiliary, the former Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Arch Activities Club and the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale. B.J. enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach and going to the casino with her friend, Jim Henning. She is survived by two children: Donna Chindemi of Carbondale, PA and Glen Shifler and wife, Caroline of Greenfield Township, PA; four step-children: Debra Morgan, James Fazio and wife, Maureen, David Fazio and wife, Terry and Deane Fazio; four grandchildren: Sarah Shifler, Jennier Shifler, Jason Shifler and wife, Nicole and Lilian Applegate; three step-grandchildren: David Fazio, Colton Fazio and Curtis Chervanka; two great grandchildren: Sophia Applegate and Jake Shifler; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister: Eleanor White. The funeral was held Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Donald Perry, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
