Eleanor Ruth Pittaway, 84, Formerly of Independence Village, Winston-Salem, North Carolina died Thursday, July 31, 2003 at The Oaks at Forsyth Residential Care Facility, Winston-Salem. She was the wife of Clifford C. Pittaway, Jr. who died June 28, 1974.
Born October 3, 1918 in Archbald, PA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pearl (Michels) Schwartztrauber.
She graduated as Salutatorian from Archbald High School, class of 1936. She resided in Carbondale, Pennsylvania for most of her adult life, retiring to Florida and North Carolina.
While at Independence Village, she was active in the Village Voices and the Name That Tune singers. She was a devout member of the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in Winston-Salem and served in ministry as a lector and as a member of the Mary-Martha Circle.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole Mancuso and son-in-law, Frank Mancuso of Hermitage, PA.; her son, Dr. Donald E. Pittaway and daughter-in-law, Carmel Pittaway of Clemmons, NC.; her sisters, Mildred Slade of Lebanon, PA. and Joann Ruddy of Coorville, NJ.; four grandchildren: Michael Mancuso, Lisa Wheeler, Jennifer Baer and Donald E. Pittaway, Jr.; three great grandchildren: Alaina Myers, Katie and Hannah Wheeler.; one great great grandchild, Brendan Wilkenson.
Second eldest of six, Eleanor was preceeded in death by three sisters: Pearl Martini of Philadelphia, PA., Mae Parry and Dorothy Bjork both of Carbondale, PA.
A graveside service was held Monday, August 4, 2003 at 1:00 pm in the East Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale, PA. with the Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter, pastor of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale, officiating.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted into the care of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
