Obituary

Edward J. Gramer, 80, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, April 10, 2026 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Anne C. Wallis. They shared 27 years of marriage but were together over 50 years.

Born April 23, 1945 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Alice Quinlan Gramer.

Ed was a 1963 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale, and was a member of the "Roses" basketball team that won the Pennsylvania Catholic Interscholastic Athletic Association state championship. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy and later moved to New York City where he worked in the tile industry. He retired from the Carbondale Area School District where he will be remembered as the high school pool manager by generations of students. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.

In addition to his wife, Anne, he is survived by three sister’s-in-law: Jeanne Waller, Judith Wagner and Mary Gramer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother: Col. Frank Gramer.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by the Rev. Charles P. Connor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Marc Waller, Scott Waller, Marc Waller, Jr., Hugh Doyle, Michael Gramer and Phil Smith.

Viewing hours were held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 5-8 p.m.
