Edward D. Gates, 69, of Carbondale, PA., died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at home. Born June 10, 1940 in Middletown, NY., son of the late Damon and Avis (Heater) Gates. He had been employed in the maintenance department of the Eagle Lake Community Association in Gouldsboro for many years. He enjoyed archery, hunting, boating and carving gem stones. He is survived by two daughters: Edna Atkins and husband William of Lenoxville, PA. and Yvonne Slick of Scranton, PA.; two sons: Edward Gates of Lenoxville, PA. and Joseph Gates and wife Stella of Union Dale, PA.; seven grandchildren: Melinda and Megan Atkins, Shelly Oakley, Brittany Slick, Michaela, Daniel and Asher Gates; one brother: Robert Gates and wife Carol of Walkill, NY.; a son-in-law: Ernest Slick of Carbondale, PA., whom he was very close to and shared many hobbies with; his former wife: Dorothy (McAndrew) Gates of Lenoxville, PA. The funeral was held Monday, April 12, 2010 at 1:00 PM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with the Rev. John McCarty, pastor of the Clifford Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Scott Valley Cemetery, Scott Township, PA. Friends called Monday, April 12, 2010 from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Parise Funeral Home. Arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale.
