Kaczmarcik

Dr. Paul M. Kaczmarcik, Ed.D., 74, of Carbondale, PA, died Sunday, June 8, 2025 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton, PA, of glioblastoma. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years Marcella A. Ziemba Kaczmarcik. They were married June 16, 1978.
Born August 30, 1950, in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Paul and Rose Bonacci Kaczmarcik.
Dr. Kaczmarcik is a 1968 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He earned a bachelor's degree in history and master's degree in secondary administration from the University of Scranton. He received his Superintendent Letter of Eligibility from Lehigh University and completed his Doctor of Education at Widener University.
During his four decades of service at Carbondale Area School District, he served in several capacities, including, social studies teacher, high school vice principal and principal of both the elementary and high schools. He was also an adjunct professor for both Marywood and Wilkes Universities.
Dr. Kaczmarcik was actively involved in the community, serving as secretary of the Carbondale Area School Board, board member of United Neighborhood Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania, member of the parish council for Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Churches, member of the Carbondale PROSPER team and the Penn State Extension Advisory Council. He also served as Carbondale Area's representative on the NEIU 19 Board. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale, where he was a lector.
He was a loving husband and father and adored being a Pop Pop. He enjoyed reading, baking and cooking for family and friends and travelling, including, visiting Florida each winter with his family. He passed on his love of music, in particular, that of Bruce Springsteen to his grandsons.
His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who provided excellent medical care, including, Drs. David W. Andrews, Padmaja Bojanapally, Thomas Churilla and Matthew Haley and their staffs as well as the staffs at Geisinger CMC, Allied Services Hospice Center, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Carbondale Fire Department, Cottage Hose Ambulance and Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
He is also survived by his daughter, Rose Anna Kaczmarcik and husband, Will Kunkle of Wynnewood, PA; two grandsons, Leo and Clark Kunkle; one sister, Kathleen Striefsky of Carbondale, PA; one aunt, Lucille Bonacci of Baltimore, MD; one brother-in-law, Thomas "Butch" Ziemba and wife, Ann Marie of Orlando, FL; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Leon Striefsky.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. The Mass was livestreamed from the church on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PariseFuneralHome/ .
Retired and current faculty, administrators and staff members of the Carbondale Area School District provided an honor guard at the church.
A viewing was held Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Kaczmarcik's name were made to a charity or organization of the donor's choice.
