Doris E. Howell-Crossman, age 86, a lifelong resident of Waymart, PA., died Thursday evening, July 8, 2010 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was the wife of George W. Crossman of Waymart and was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Howell.
Born April 12, 1924 in Waymart, PA., she was the daughter of the late Homer B. and Myrtle (Weildenstein) Curtis.
She was a 1941 graduate of Pleasant Mount Schools and a member of the Clinton Center Baptist Church, Waymart where she was active with bible studies. She retired after 35 years from the Waymart Knitware Factory. She helped raise several of her nieces and nephews and was a member of the Senior Citizens Group in Waymart. She was an avid baker, reader and loved gardening.
She is survived by one sister: Joyce Vanambury of Watkins Glen, NY.; one brother: Robert Curtis of Waymart, PA.; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; two step sons: Ezra Crossman of Johnson City, NY. and Ellis Crossman of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by one brother: Erwin Curtis.
The funeral was held Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Clinton Center Baptist Church, Waymart, with Rev. Earl Cottrell, pastor, officiating. Interment, Clinton Center Baptist Cemetery, Waymart.
Pallbearers: Randy Howell, Ronald, Thomas, William, Richard and Leonard Curtis.
Friends called Monday, July 12, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale.
