Doris E. Decavage, 97, of Scranton, PA., died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Commonwealth Hospice, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of Tony Decavage who died April 2, 1985.
Born January 26, 1916 in Lenox Township, PA., she was the daughter of the late John and Carrie Wayman Sherman.
She was very active right up until her death and was always taken by other to be many years younger than she was. She enjoyed her trips with her daughter to the casinos in Atlantic City and in recent years to the local casinos. Up until her husband's death, Tony and Doris operated Decavage's Greenhouse in Lenox Township for many years. Later in life she followed her passion for floral arranging and won many blue ribbons at local fairs. In 2011, she won the Secretary Award which is the fine arts award given at the Harford Fair.
Her daughter Janie was always so proud to hear people say how much they loved her mom. Doris was friendly and out going and made everyone she met her friend.
Her family would like to thank all the staff at Green Ridge Rehabilitation Center for their care and kindness during Doris's recent stay. Special thanks is also offered to Commonwealth Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days.
She is survived by one daughter: Janie Lawless of Dunmore, PA.; a nephew: Richard Stark and wife Mary; a niece: Gladys Mason; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters: Beatrice, Coral, Mildred, Alice and Muriel; brothers: Glenn, Raymond, Kenneth, Edward and James.
The funeral was held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 12:00 PM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with Pastor Peg Knapich, rector of the Clifford and Lenoxville United Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
