Obituary

Doris Allan Carlo, 83, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Friday, December 9, 2013 at home after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Anthony T. Carlo, Jr. who died on October 21, 1991. Born September 15, 1930 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margretta Foerster Allan. She was the step daughter of the late Garfield Thomas. She was raised in Jermyn, PA and was a graduate of Jermyn High School. She attended Syracuse University and graduated from Lackawanna Business College in Scranton. Doris was a lifelong member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Carbondale and the Elkview Country Club at Crystal Lake, PA. An avid golfer, she shot a hole in one at Elkview in 1976 and was fundamental in starting the Ladies Junior Golf Program for the club. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, gardening and cooking. She was a homemaker and mother having cared for her children, husband and their home on Short Street in Carbondale. Through the years, she also had been employed at the Scranton National Bank, the After Five Supper Club in Dickson City, PA as a long time waitress and later in life as a driver for NEIU 19. The family would like to thank the nurses of Traditional Home Health Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. She is survived by six children: David Carlo and wife Mary Carol of Carbondale, PA, Debra Sholly of Baton Rouge, LA, Fran Cones and husband Ron of Sacramento, CA, Tony Carlo and wife Mary Ann of Childs, PA, Joe Carlo and companion Lori Casey of Clifford Township, PA and Barb Ciambriello and husband Tony of Greenfield Township, PA; one brother: James Allan of Jermyn, PA; eight grandchildren: Cameron and Danielle Sholly, Jessica Carlo, Joe Carlo, Jr., Nico and Gino Ciambriello, Brandon and Ryan Cones; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Barbara Bonner. The funeral was held Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Rev. Donald Schaible, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers were her children: Debra Sholly, Fran Cones, Barb Ciambriello, David Carlo, Joseph Carlo and Tony Carlo. Friends called Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 5-8 PM. Funeral Service 11:00 am Monday, December 9, 2013 Carmine J. & Louis C.
