Obituary

Donald E. Shoener, 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday night, July 9, 2013 at home. He was the husband of the former Mary Vergari. They were married on October 1, 1978. Born April 30, 1929 in Scranton, PA., he was the son of the late Vernon and Greta Davis Shoener. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Mid Valley DAV, Post 11 in Dickson City, PA. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a type setter for many years at Haddon Craftsman in Scranton and Smith-Bennett Printing in Wilkes Barre, PA. He is survived by one daughter: Kathy Tansits and husband Kenneth of Scranton, PA.; one step son: Mark Evans of Carbondale, PA.; one granddaughter: Courtney Tansits of Scranton, PA.; one sister: Barbara Bzdick and husband John of Jessup, PA.; two brothers: Darwin Shoener and wife Jane and Thomas Shoener and wife Bernice all of Scranton, PA.; numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with his son-in-law, Kenneth Tansits, officiating. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Robert Johnson, Sr., Robert Johnson, Jr., John Bzdick, Donald Shoener, Darwin Shoener and Thomas Shoener. Friends called Friday, July 12, 2013 from 5-8 PM.
