Donald F. Gumpert, 81, of Dundaff, PA, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after being stricken ill at home. His wife the former Lois A. Congdon died on December 21, 2009. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Frederick and Eleanor Price Gumpert. He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and received both his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Scranton. He had been employed as an engineer at both RCA and retired from Weston in Archbald, PA. He was a ham radio operator and belonged to the Susquehanna County Amateur Radio Club. For many years, he was the sole caregiver to his wife during her battle with Parkinson's. Prior to his wife's illness, he was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale, where he served on the vestry and as treasurer. He enjoyed painting portraits and landscapes and was an avid reader, especially about the civil war, astronomy and science. He is survived by three daughters: Sandra Gumpert at home, Karen Riccardo and husband James of Carlisle, PA and Diana Pieski and husband Emil of Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren: Andrew and Evan Riccardo and Emily and Elena Pieski; one brother: Leroy Gumpert of Centreville, VA; nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Rev. Edward Erb, officiating.
