Obituary

Donald Eugene Carl, 70, of Nicholson, PA, formerly of Grantville, PA, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 30, 2015. His wife is the former Virginia Folmer. Born August 30, 1944 in Hershey, PA, he was the son of the late Ray B. and Marion Megonnell Carl. Donald graduated from Northern Lebanon High School in 1962 and was a veteran of the Army. He worked for PPL, formerly Hershey Electric for 42 years prior to his retirement in 2007. He was a member of Bindnagle Lutheran Church, Palmyra, PA, Fort Indiantown Gap Conservation Club and the Lackawanna Valley Trout Unlimited. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He loved to travel and see new sights and was able to strike up a conversation and make new friends wherever his journeys brought him. He was also a very hard worker who very much loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. He is survived by two daughters: Michelle wife of Scott Schneider of Elizabethtown, PA and Melissa wife of Mark Urda of Nicholson, PA; grandchildren: Ethan, Evan and Emma Schneider and Aubrey and Adalynn Urda; two sisters: Judy Hershey of Grantville, PA and Linda Smith of Kure Beach, NC. A funeral service was held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA. Friends called Thursday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Interment took place Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the Lackawanna Valley Trout Unlimited, 542 Boulevard Avenue, Dickson City, PA 18519.
