Obituary

Delmer L. "Del" Riffe, 79, of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife of 42 ½ years, the former Karen Mascelli. Born March 18, 1942 in Hundred, WV, he was the son of the late Norm Riffe and Edna Kennedy Six. Del was a graduate of Hundred High School, Hundred, WV, and attended Fairmont State University, Fairmont, WV. He had been employed as the assistant manager at Fleetwood Enterprises, Carbondale, as chief administrator for General Dynamics, Archbald, PA, and prior to his illness as purchasing agent for Creative Design and Machining, Clarks Summit, PA. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, was a counselor and board member of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation and a 20-year member of the Carbondale Civil Service Commission. Del was also a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus, Council 7622, Jermyn, PA, and the Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake, PA, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf. He shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Nicole when he coached the girl's 5th thru 8th grade basketball teams at the former Sacred Heart School, Carbondale, of which Nicole was a member. Del was a lifetime West Virgina Mountaineers fan. The family would like to thank the staff at Geisinger CMC and the nurses at Allied Services Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. He is survived by four children: Lynn Gerke and husband, Mark of Menomonee Falls, WI, Greg Riffe and wife Beth of Coopersville, MI and Jeff Riffe and wife, Kris of Troy, MI and Tracy Hofmann of Fort Wayne, IN; a granddaughter: Nicole Sposito-Pittack and husband, Danny whom Del was very fond of, as well as his other grandchildren: Caleb, Blake, Connor, Max, Mitchell, Rebecca, Alec, Andrew, Charlotte, Nathan and Benjamin, a daughter-in-law: Tina Brier of Peckville, PA; a brother: Daniel Six; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his step-son: James P. Sposito. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Jeff Walsh, pastor. The family will received friends on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
