David A. Butler, age 66, of Simpson, PA., died Sunday morning, July 21, 2013 at home.
Born September 29, 1946 in Union Dale, PA., he was the son of the late Wendell C. and Bernice (Price) Butler.
David was a retired disabled Marine Corp veteran serving three tours in Vietnam and was a recipient of three purple hearts. He was assigned to the elite Reconnaissance division participating in special operations throughout Southeast Asia. David was trained as a paralegal with training at the University of Scranton and schools in Memphis, TN., was a member of the Simpson VFW, Post 4712 and an avid reader.
He is survived by one daughter: Courtney Montgomary and husband Matthew of Arlington, TN.; two sons: Corey Butler of Memphis, TN. and Matthew Butler of Scranton, PA.; one grandson: Crews Butler of Memphis, TN.; two sisters: Carol Woodruff of Clifford, PA. and Valerie Treadway and husband Stephen of Arlington, VA.; two brothers: Chaplain Richard Butler, Retired Navy Chaplain 28 years and wife Deborah, of Aspers, PA., and Chaplain Thomas Butler, Retired Army Reserves Chaplain 26 years and wife Martha, of Sioux Falls, SD.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Kenneth Butler. A graveside service with military honors was held Friday, July 26, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Welsh Hill Cemetery, Union Dale, PA., with his brothers Chaplain Richard and Chaplain Thomas Butler, officiating.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
