SGT David Keith Bowan, 27, of Simpson, PA., died Monday, July 30, 2012 at home.
Born May 25, 1985 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of David Bowan of Forest City, PA. and Lisa Griffin Bowan of Simpson, PA.
Keith was a graduate of the Carbondale Area High School and directly after graduation he enlisted in the Army. He served as a sergeant with HHC1-109th Infantry Regiment, Scranton, PA. and served two tours in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also employed as a corrections officer for the State Correctional Institution in Waymart, PA.
Keith was a devoted Yankee's fan and always enjoyed going to Stan's Sport's Bar that was located next door to the old Yankee's Stadium more than attending the ball game. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved riding his motorcycle. He was proud of his service to his country and was looking forward to his upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. His family and many friends will especially miss his kind and generous spirit.
He is survived by one brother: Kevin Michael Bowan of Simpson, PA.; paternal grandmother: Dorothy Bowan of Simpson, PA.; his wife: Alyssa Bowen; two step children: Wesley and Kamryn Lonzinski; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including Joseph and Helen Gorel and their daughter Tammy of Whites Crossing, PA., whom he was especially close with.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Paul Bowan; his maternal grandparents: Norris and Millie Griffin; a special cousin: Brian Gorel.
The funeral was held Monday, August 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA., with Major Ryan C. Kraus, Battalion Chaplain, officiating. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Scott Township, PA.
Military honors were provided by HHC1-109th Army Infantry Regiment.
