Daniel A. Larkin, Jr., 78, of Childs, PA., died Sunday morning, March 27, 2011at home. He was the husband of the former Judith McDonough. They were married January 26, 1957. Born November 9, 1932 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Anna (Saldonis) Larkin, Sr. He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, class of 1950 and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Chamberlain Corporation in Scranton. He used to be a baseball coach for the Carbondale Little League many years ago. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies and documentaries about the military. He also enjoyed bird watching and feeding the squirrels in his back yard. The family would like to thank Dr. Matt Haley and the nurses of Home Health Care Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Dan during his illness. He is survived by three sons: Daniel A. Larkin, III. and wife Luci of Carbondale, PA., John F. Larkin of Jermyn, PA. and Matthew Larkin and wife Darlene of Dickson City, PA.; one daughter: Diane Berta and husband Eddie of Carbondale, PA.; three grandchildren: Randee Berta, Alyssa Harvey and Derek Shuta; two sisters: Ruth Watson and Ann Marie Martin both of Liberty, NY.; an aunt: Veronica Mancuso of Carbondale, PA.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Mary Donna Randazzo; two brothers: Joseph and Walter Larkin. The funeral was held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 8:30 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale. Entombment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 4-8 PM. Pallbearers: Donnie McDonough, Donnie McDonough, Bobby McDonough, Joey Larkin, Joey Falbo and Michael Watson.
