Corine Gardner Petrilak, 88, of Greenfield Township, PA., passed away in her sleep, Sunday morning, April 18, 2010 at The Laurels, Peckville, PA. She was the wife of the late Walter M. Petrilak, who died February 1, 2004. Born in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Leon and Jesse (Holt) Gardner. A life long resident of the Carbondale/Greenfield Township area, she was educated in the Carbondale school system. Corine married her high school sweetheart, Walter Petrilak and raised one son, Michael on their family farm in Greenfield. With a partnership with Andy and Peg Petrilak, Corine and Walter designed, constructed and operated Skyline Golf Course for 27 years until their retirement in 1987. She was, thereafter, associated with Sleepy Hollow Golf Course, which is owned by her son and daughter-in-law. Since the passing of her husband, Corine enjoyed the honorary position of greeter in the clubhouse, familiar to many and friendly to all who entered the club. Her love of family, friends and life outlives the physical heart that failed her. Grammy enjoyed close, lifelong relationships with numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families within the Petrilak and Gardner families. She was known to enjoy a game of cards and was always ready to say, yes to a ride to the casino. She lived life to the fullest and always with a laugh or a smile. If she didn't know you when you arrived, she'd know you when you left. For this she will be remembered. Corine's life was enriched by her son: Michael Petrilak and wife Mary of Greenfield Township, PA; her sister-in-law: Clara Gardner who was her regular companion and caregiver; her five grandchildren: Sandra Walter of Mayfield, PA., Brian Petrilak of Benton Township., PA., Jessica Petrilak of Dickson City, PA., Nick and Jon Petrilak both of Greenfield Township, PA.: she enjoyed the love of her four great grandchildren: Kristen Walter of Mayfield, PA., Courtney and Matthew Petrilak of Benton Township, PA. and Ashton Petrilak of Dickson City, PA.; she was blessed to enjoy one great great granddaughter: Ayla Walter of Mayfield, PA. She suffered the passing of one grandson: Michael Petrilak, Jr. in 1997; one brother: Joseph Gardner. The funeral was held Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 11:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with Rev. Daniel Henwood, pastor of the Finch Hill Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Sandy Banks Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Pallbearers: John Petrilak, Nick Petrilak, Brian Petrilak, Raymond Short, Mark Smith and Robert Frazier. Friends called Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 5-8 PM. Memorial contributions were made in Corine's name to the church she belonged to, the Finch Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 24, Carbondale, PA. 18407 or to the donor's favorite charity.
