Clyde W. Bennett, 71, of Simpson, PA., died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2013 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Carol Gibbs-Smith. They were married on June 10, 1977
Born January 8, 1942 in Unity, ME., he was the son of the late Charles F. and Cleo Shorey Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his step mother who raised him, Marion Weston Bennett.
He was the owner and operator of Bennett's Small Engine Repair Shop in Carbondale, PA. A Veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in both the Army and the Navy and was a lifetime member of the VFW in Maine. He enjoyed archery, hunting, fishing, reading, cooking and watching the Food Channel. In earlier years, he always looked forward to his semi-annual motorcycle trip to Maine with his wife. He found great pleasure being with his favorite pet dogs: Tigger, Sasha and Lady.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stafford Smith, Dr. Ferdinand Manahan, Dr. Gregory Cali, Dr. Gregory Salko and Kenneth Bannon, PA for their care and kindness while treating Clyde for his cardiac and kidney disease over the past ten years. To Dr. David Tomazic and the staff of the Forest City Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center our appreciation for their patience, care and understanding while Clyde was in physical rehab. To all the staff at Davita Dialysis Center in Childs for the terrific care, patience and the staff's wonderful sense of humor shown to Clyde during his nine years of treatment.
He is survived by a step son: Mark Smith of Carbondale, PA.; one son: Michael Bennett of Augusta, ME.; three sisters: Sara Jane Kahler and husband Howard of Bremen, ME., Francena Bennett of Bremen, ME. and Maxine Watson of White Field, ME.; a granddaughter: Jackelyn Smith-Matsumoto of Jermyn, PA.; a great grandson: Tristin Matsumoto; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Charles F. Bennett, Jr.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Pastor Don Parry, officiating. Cremation followed. Interment with military honors, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
