Claude M. Granville, 75, of Carbondale, PA, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Wednesday, August 12, 2015 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, the former Judith M. Gilia.
Born October 24, 1939 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Earl and Rosella Fortuner Granville.
He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale and served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard with the 109th Infantry. Prior to his retirement, Claude had been employed as a service technician for O'Hora and Sons Plumbing and Heating in Scranton, PA. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale.
Claude was a loving husband and father as well as a devoted grandfather who enjoyed spending time playing with his grandchildren. He was a skilled tradesman, avid sports fan and cherished the time working in his garage and watching football with his sons. Claude will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The family extends a special thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart and all of Claude's caregivers, especially Bonnie, Carla and Amber.
He is survived by six children: Michelle Nevins and husband William of Carbondale, PA, Michael Granville and wife Eva of Jermyn, PA, Glen Granville and wife Nina of Carbondale, PA, Thomas Granville and wife JinHee of Carbondale, PA, Monica Jankauskas and husband Chris of Greenfield Township, PA and Jason Granville and fiance Janeen Domiano of Greenfield Township, PA; ten grandchildren: Alex, Nick, Emily, Asher and Harang Granville, Billy and Maura Nevins, Kyle Pesek, Corey and Elese Frazier; seven sisters: Elizabeth Opalka of Carbondale, PA, Ann Barnowski of Forest City, PA, Rose Greene of Carbondale, PA, Mary Roche of Carbondale, PA, Beatrice Okrasinski of East Benton, PA, Cathy Ball of East Benton, PA and Florence Palmiero of South Carolina; four brothers: Paul Granville of Carbondale, PA, Alwin Granville of Carbondale, PA, Harry Granville of Carbondale, PA and Philip Granville of Richmondale, PA; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Earl Jr. and James Granville.
The funeral was held Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Martin J. Gaiardo and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
