Clarence J. CJ Counterman, 81, Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Deanna Barney who died May 15, 2009. Born December 10, 1930 in Waymart, PA., he was the son of the late Raymond and Clara Penn Counterman. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a truck driver for several local trucking companies. He had served as a private with Company F, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard from 1946 to 1949. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by four sons: Daniel Barney of Carbondale, PA., David Counterman of Clifford, PA., Philip Counterman of Honesdale, PA. and Clancy Counterman of Hamlin, PA.; two daughters: Winona Long of Carbondale, PA. and Teri Counterman of Herrick Center, PA.; one sister: Lois Rickard of Elmira, NY.; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son: Scott Counterman; two sisters: Shirley Counterman and Betty Panna. The funeral was held Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Pastor Rand Kizer of the South Clinton Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Keen Cemetery, Waymart, PA. Pallbearers: Nathan Counterman, Philip Counterman, David Counterman, Jerry Rickard, Daniel Applegate and Zachary Brown. Friends called Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6-8 PM.
