Obituary

Claire Joyce Giannella, 79, of a resident of Harford, PA., since 1971, died Tuesday evening, October 2, 2012 at the Commonwealth Hospice, Scranton, PA., after a short battle with cancer. Her husband, Nick Giannella, died on May 27, 1994. They were married for 31 years. Born August 23, 1933 in Paterson, NJ., she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Florence Keller Keyser. Claire, along with her husband Nick, were the proprietors of a restaurant and pony ride business in West Paterson, NJ, prior to moving to Harford, PA. She ran a family farm and household after moving to Harford. Her greatest joy in life was working on the family farm. She raised and cared for a variety of animals such as cows, sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, horses, etc. She bred and raised registered Arabian horses and German Shepherd dogs. Her constant companion up until her death was her German Shepherd, Sandy. She also enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, orchard, and just being outdoors. Her hobbies were knitting and woodworking. She always looked forward to attending her granddaughters' school plays and musical presentations. She is survived by one daughter: Laurie Serfilippi and husband Steven of Thompson, PA.; two granddaughters: Sarah and Rachel; one sister: Lois Marakovitz and husband Matthew of Wayne, NJ.; two nieces: Susan and Sharon. A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 7:00 PM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with the Rev. Patricia Hanley, pastor of the Lake Como United Methodist Church, Lake Como, PA., officiating. Interment, Gibson Cemetery, Gibson, PA. Friends called Tuesday, October 9, 2012 from 6-7 PM. Memorial Service 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 9, 2012 Shifler-Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Clifford, PA 18 Airport Road Clifford, Pennsylvania, United States
