Obituary

Chester J. Seleski, 92, of Carbondale, PA., died Saturday evening, August 6, 2011 at the Osprey Ridge Health Care Center, Carbondale, PA. His wife was the former Agnes Beechick, who died December 8, 1994. Born March 25, 1919 in Archbald, PA., he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Zabielski) Seleski. He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He served in the Army during World War II where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4712, Simpson, PA. and the Cerra-Leo Memorial Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, Post 98, Carbondale. He worked for the Betchel Corporation for 20 years and was a member of the Local 130 Laborers Union. He served as a firefighter for 70 years and was a member of the Cottage Hose Company, Carbondale. He held various offices such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, trustee and delegate for the Cottage Hose Company, Carbondale Fire Police, Lackawanna County Fire Police, Six County Fire Police and Pennsylvania State Fire Police. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed taking his grandson JoeJoe to wrestling matches. He is survived by one daughter: Debbie Calandi and husband Joseph of Carbondale, PA., owners of JC Vinyl and Calandi's Caf of Carbondale, PA.; one grandson: JoeJoe Calandi and wife Christina of Carbondale, PA.; two great grandchildren: Jasmine and Zachery, both of Carbondale, PA.; one sister: Mary McKalotz of Carbondale, PA.; two brothers: Joseph Seleski of Fort Lauderdale, FL. and Stanley Seleski and wife Mary of Plantation, FL.; one aunt: Josie Zabieliski of New York, NY. He was preceded in death by one brother: Emil Seleski. The funeral was held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Msgr. Dale Rupert. Interment with military honors, Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart, PA. Pallbearers: Andrew Sisko, Michael McKalotz and JoeJoe Calandi. Friends called Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 5-9 PM.
