Charlotte H. Sharp, 83, of Nuangola, PA., died Saturday evening, June 20, 2009 at home. She was the wife of the late Reginald H. Sharp, who died June 10, 1997. They were married on June 18, 1948.
Born April 26, 1926 in Portsmouth, NH., she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Jessie (Coleman) Hammond. She was a 1943 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a 1947 graduate of the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Portsmouth and Exeter New Hampshire hospitals. In 1977, she graduated from New England College in Henniker, NH with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received her Learning Disabilities teaching certification soon after. She was a Title I Aide at Little Harbour Elementary and Hampton Junior High School in Hampton, NH, as well as, a Learning Disabilities Teacher for grade 3 and 4 at the Marston School in Hampton, NH in the 1990's until she retired.
She belonged to the PTA at Newfields, NH Elementary School for many years and held all offices and committee chair positions in that organization. She was the Mental Health Chair for the New Hampshire State PTA Organization. During the 1960's, she was a member of and active contributor to the Exeter, New Hampshire High School Athletics Boosters Club. During her life, she was very much involved in the United Church of Christ, where she spent more than 35 years teaching Church school. She was also a Christian Education Director at the Community Church in Newfields, NH and the Congregational Church in Exeter, NH. A camp counselor for many years at the New Hampshire UCC Conference Center in Pembroke, NH and served as the Christian Education Committee Chair for Junior High Programs at New Hampshire UCC.
She is survived by one daughter: Eileen Sharp and partner Gay Meyers of Nuangola, PA., with whom she resided for the past 8 1/2 years.; one son: Dwight Sharp and former wife Ellen of Exeter, NH.; five grandchildren: Mandi (Sharp) Postles and husband Jason of Breckenridge, CO.; Denis Sharp of East Kingston, NH.; Dr. Lee (Meyers) Pollaro and husband Vincent of Wellsboro, PA.; Dr. Jessica Mehring of Bethlehem, PA. and Bridget Mehring of Wilkes-Barre, PA.; three great grandchildren: Blake and Hayden Postles and Ethan Pollaro; two sisters: Harriett Bailey of Concord, NH. and Ruth Knox and husband Douglas of Newville , PA.; a sister-in-law: Charlene Smith and husband Daniel of Newfields, NH.; a brother-in-law: Dana Sharp and wife Joan of Palm Harbor, FL.; A number of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and cousins. A memorial service was held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Lily Lake Road, Slocum, PA., with Pastors Robert Thomas and William Mackey-Wisor, officiating. Friends called at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. A second memorial service was held Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Newington Congregational Church, 316 Nimble Hill Road, Newington, NH., with Rev. Arthur Dunham and Rev. Thomas Barker, pastor, officiating. Friends called at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment, Newington Church Cemetery, Newington, NH.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, Carbondale, PA.
