Charles L. Whitmore, Sr., 88, a former resident of Endfield, NY., died Sunday morning VNA Hospice, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Doris Stage who died on December 17, 1999.
Born December 15, 1924 in Riley, IN., he was the son of the late Burton Warren and Ethel Lemond Whitmore.
He was an Army veteran of World War II having served with Company E of the 475th Infantry Regiment in the Pacific Theatre. After being discharged from the Army he later served as a Sergeant in the Air Force. He had been employed for many years by the Ithaca Gun Company in Ithaca, NY. He resided for eight years with his niece Juanita Young before residing at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton for the past two years.
He is survived by one son: Charles L. Whitmore, Jr. of Groton, NY.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his niece and caregiver; Juanita Young and husband Wayne of Nicholson, PA. and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Burton Whitmore.
A graveside service with military honors was held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 12:00 PM in Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale, PA.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
