Celia McDonnell, 73, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015 at the Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of the late Patrick J. McDonnell, who died July 19, 2003. They were married August 20, 1960. Born February 19, 1942 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Christopher and Carmella Gentile Leo. Celia was a 1959 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and worked for 29 years in the business office at the Carbondale Area School District before her retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and enjoyed bingo and her trips to the casinos. She loved her family very much and treasured her time with her grandchildren. She is survived by one son: Patrick McDonnell, Jr. of Rockledge, PA; two daughters: Maria Liptak and husband Tom of South Canaan, PA and Christine Roberts and husband Paul of Archbald, PA; four grandchildren: Tyler and Jordan Liptak and Vicky and Abby Roberts; one brother: Anthony (Sonny) Leo of Carbondale, PA; cousin: Madeline Nault of Carbondale, PA; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She is preceded in death by two sisters: Clara Scavo and Jane Pascoe; cousin: Mary Ann Gentile. The funeral was held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Greg Stackhouse, Paul Striefsky, Paul Roberts, Tyler Liptak and Thomas Liptak.
