Catherine R. Kay Monaghan, RN, age 76, of Carbondale Twp, PA, died Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014 at the Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. Born November 8, 1937 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Corcoran) O' Dowd. Kay was a 1955 graduate of St. Rose High School, Carbondale, attended Marywood University and graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Carbondale where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ and was a psych nurse at Farview State Hospital, Waymart, PA. She also worked as a private duty nurse in Chicago, Illinois, staff nurse at Camp Geneva, Lake Como, PA and a supervising nurse at the Mid Valley Home and Health Care Center, Blakely, PA. She enjoyed her many trips to the casino. She is survived by one daughter: Mary Lynn Monaghan of Mayfield, PA; two sons: Kevin Monaghan of Carbondale, PA and Paul Monaghan of West Warwick, RI; three grandchildren: Michael, Karyssa and Joshua Monaghan She was preceded in death by one son: Matthew J. Monaghan; one grandson: Corey David Monaghan; one sister: Ann Claire Turano. The funeral was held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 9:15 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Friday, May 23, 2014 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers: Paul Monaghan, Kevin Monaghan, Joshua Monaghan, Dave Turano, Marty Buchinski and John McFadden.
