Ann Carey Harding, age 80, of Waymart, PA., died Wednesday afternoon, February 29, 2012 at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William J. Carey, who died May 8, 1970 and her second husband, Thomas J. Harding who died January 21, 2003.
Born August 2, 1931 in Clarks Green, PA., she was the daughter of the late George Earl Bullock and Isabella (Ruddy) Bullock.
After graduating from Scranton Technical High School in 1949, she worked as a switchboard operator for the Scranton Tribune Newspaper where she met her first husband, Bill Carey, who was a reporter for the paper. After marrying and moving to Carbondale, PA., their family grew to include 5 children. At the age of 38 she was widowed. With strength and determination, she successfully raised her 5 children as a single mother.
She later worked as a secretary at the Carbondale Tax Office, Carbondale Nursing Home and Easter Seals Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania for many years. In 1974, she met and married her second husband, Tom Harding. They loved spending time at the Jersey shore, but Ann's greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren. She recently built her dream home on her mountain property in Waymart and lived there until her death.
She is survived by three daughters: Marianne Carey of Northfield, NJ., Christine Carey of Randolph, NJ. and Lisa Carey of Denver, CO.; two sons: Jesse Carey of Waymart, PA. and William Carey of Absecon, NJ.; thirteen grandchildren; a cousin: Mary Menichiello of Scranton, PA. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother: Earl Bullock.
Friends called at the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 1:00-4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, a blessing service was conducted by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Cremation followed and inurnment was held at the Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart, PA.
