Catherine M. Cerra, age 81, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Saturday evening, October 18, 2014 at her daughter Susanne's home in Greenfield Township, following a short illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Cerra, who died December 6, 2013. They were married September 6, 1958.
Born November 4, 1932 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Balzano Scavo. Catherine was a 1952 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and worked at the Bell Telephone Company, Carbondale as an operator for a few years. After having children, she became a stay at home mother to take care of her family. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren and she had the privilege to help raise them over the years. She later worked at Takach's Grove, Greenfield Township and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.
She enjoyed cooking and was known for her fried meatballs, gnocchi and famous potato salad. She also enjoyed bingo scratch offs, trips to the casino and spending time with her daughter's dog Sammy. She was loving, caring and generous to her family and friends and will be dearly missed by them. The family wishes to thank Peggy Littman and the staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Catherine, for their care to Catherine during her illness.
She is survived by two daughters: Ann Marie Didato and husband Thomas and Susanne Totsky and husband Mark, all of Greenfield Township; three grandchildren: Matthew and Michael Didato and Katie Totsky; one brother: Thomas Scavo and wife Joan of Carbondale, PA; one sister-in-law: Gloria Scavo of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother: Charles Scavo. The funeral was held Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Matthew Didato, Michael Didato, Thomas Farley, Joseph Guzzi, Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor, Charles Scavo, Paul Pisarcik, Jr. and Brandon Loomis. Friends called Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
